Donate your deposit – A campaign by Faruk Ünal and the mail centre in Gutleutstraße

Mr Ünal has been supporting the Frankfurt Foundation for Children with Cancer for many years. At his employer – the Deutsche Post AG postal logistics centre in Frankfurt’s Gutleutstrasse – he noticed that employees often disposed of their returnable bottles on site without collecting the deposit. This gave him the idea that these bottles could be collected and the deposit donated. With the agreement of the shift manager, Mr Ak Sakal, a large cardboard box was built from existing materials and labelled with an appeal for donations for the Frankfurt Foundation for Children with Cancer. In the beginning, the bottles were placed individually in the supermarket deposit machines, but later, with the support of Metro in Frankfurt, they were handed in by the carton. The campaign ran for a total of 18 months. An impressive 2,150 euros were collected.

To ensure that the employees at the logistics centre also know where their deposit money goes, the two visited our research centre on their behalf and got an idea of the work on site. They also came up with the idea of establishing the deposit boxes in other postal centres.

We would like to thank Mr Ünal for this great campaign and all (bottle) donors for their great support for research into new cancer therapies for children and young people.

FUCHS LUBRICANTS GERMANY supports the foundation with € 10,000

Last week we had a visit from the Palatinate. The Managing Director of LUCHS LUBRICANT GERMANY, Susanne Heirich, presented the foundation with a cheque for € 10,000. The contact came about at a recent award ceremony for the foundation, after which employees of the foundation and Mrs Heirich had a long chat about the foundation’s work. Some parallels with Fuchs Lubricants were discovered. Research is also being carried out there to continuously improve the products and avoid unwanted side effects. We are also constantly researching new treatment options to cure all children suffering from cancer and to avoid or minimise late effects. Impressed by the research activities, Susanne Heirich has championed our cause in her company.

During their visit, Susanne Heirich and her colleague from Marketing, Ute Fey, were convinced of the need to support this important work. Further ideas for co-operation were therefore discussed. We hope to remain in close contact with Fuchs Lubricants Germany in the future.

We would like to thank everyone at Fuchs Lubricants for making this donation possible in order to improve the lives and futures of children with cancer.

200 “Schoppe” lids for “Gerippte” with our foundation logo

We got to know Mr and Mrs Helfrich not only as supporters and tour guides of the Possmann apple press house in Frankfurt, but also as gifted wood artists. He has burnt the logo of our foundation into precious woods in minute detail, creating 200 unique pieces. Mr Helfrich had unexpected support. The wood required for the production was donated by the company Natursteingarten Egenolf in 61200 Wölfersheim, after the owner Clemens Egenolf had heard for whom the lids were intended. Thank you very much for this great campaign!

The lids – together with special glasses bearing the foundation’s logo – will be used as part of our public relations work.

Successful biscuit sale by class 6b of the Kreisrealschule Gelnhausen

In a moving campaign, pupils from class 6b at the Kreisrealschule Gelnhausen sold home-baked biscuits and muffins in the school hall before Christmas. For a symbolic price of €1, they raised an impressive total of €200. But what makes this biscuit sale special is the pupils’ decision to donate the money raised to the Frankfurt Foundation for Children with Cancer.

On 23 February 2024, the pupils had the opportunity to travel to Frankfurt in person to hand over the money collected on site. But before they handed over the donation, they took the opportunity to ask Prof Michaelis many questions, which he answered patiently and in detail. The students’ questions demonstrated their genuine interest and sensitivity to the topic of cancer. For example, they wanted to know how many children and adults develop cancer, what the chances of recovery are, what leukaemia means and how chemotherapy works.

Under the guidance of scientists from the foundation, the pupils were able to view leukaemia cell lines under the microscope, which not only aroused their curiosity, but also deepened their understanding of the appearance of cells and their significance for research. A special highlight was also the storage of the cell lines in cryotanks with liquid nitrogen at -196 degrees.

Class 6b’s initiative not only demonstrates their social commitment, but also their willingness to actively support a good cause. This campaign is a touching example of how children and young people can make a positive contribution to society through their initiative and solidarity. The pupils of class 6b have shown that they not only think about themselves, but also about those who need support.

Brother International GmbH runs for a good cause!

After the coronavirus break, we were delighted to welcome Brother International GmbH back to our foundation. The company representatives brought along a cheque for 5,000 euros.

Brother International has been organising the “Golden Ring” charity project worldwide since 2012. The idea behind this is for all subsidiaries to join together to form a ring and focus on the issue of cancer. Brother Germany has been taking part in the “Golden Ring Run” since 2014. For every lap run, Brother donates a certain amount of money to support cancer-related projects. After receiving a total donation of € 100,000 in 2014-2019, we were once again the beneficiary of a generous donation cheque for € 5,000 in 2023.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to Brother and all those involved for their loyal support over the years. Without the help of so many people, research into new cancer therapies for children and young people would not be possible.

WCP GmbH from Messel once again donates € 10,000

In 2023, WCP GmbH in Messel once again donated a 5-figure sum to the foundation. Over the years, more than €100,000 has been raised. We would like to thank Sven Mattis and his team from the bottom of our hearts.

Our board member Uwe Menger and managing director Marcus Klüssendorf were able to experience the similarities between prototype construction and research during an extensive tour of the production facilities. In both areas, extensive research and testing must first be carried out. Reliable results usually only emerge after many failures. As is often the case, the path to a solution is the famous search for a needle in a haystack.

We hope to be able to count on the valuable support of WCP and the entire team in our anniversary year 2024.

A big THANK YOU to Mr Mattis for his loyal and valuable support.

Doing good and talking about it

Last week, we had a visit from Stefanie Symmank, founder and Managing Director of VFS Personalberatungs GmbH, and her colleague Moritz Fahrig.

As an entrepreneur, Mrs Symmank is very keen to take responsibility for sustainable management in economic, ecological and social terms – and to show this to the outside world.

This year, she has decided to support children’s cancer research at our company with 50 euros per successful recruitment. An impressive 1,400 euros have been credited to our donation account. We very much appreciate this valuable contribution towards our goal of giving all children and young people with cancer a chance of a cure.

THANK YOU for this great social commitment.

Thanks to a loyal sponsor

Our loyal sponsor Markus Bernsteiner from the company Arnold AG in Frankfurt has taken up his tradition again and made a donation to us in honour of the year. Last week, our Managing Director Marcus Klüssendorf was able to accept the generous donation of 2,023 euros at the Arnold company premises. A big THANK YOU to Mr Bernsteiner for his renewed valuable support for children’s cancer research. We greatly appreciate his many years of commitment.
